Are irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and UTIs connected?

Research has found that despite individuals with IBS displaying more lower urinary tract symptoms, there is no added risk of developing UTIs. This doesn't mean that the symptoms can't be connected for some, and it's important to investigate a root cause.

IBS and UTI may share symptoms as well as onset triggers. Shared symptoms include urgency, frequency and dysuria (pain when urinating).
