In a dramatic and distinctly Australian confrontation, a hardworking Gold Coast tradesman has caught a serial fuel thief red-handed siphoning diesel from his work truck. The high-stakes mid-night encounter, which took place on a quiet suburban street, was entirely captured on home closed-circuit television (CCTV) and mobile phone video, quickly going viral across national media networks.

Joining Today Show host Karl Stefanovic to share his incredible story is the quick-thinking vehicle owner, James Longstaff. James reveals that he was working late in his home office editing a video when his intuition—or "Spidey sense"—abruptly kicked in. Glancing at his security monitor, he spotted a suspicious white Volkswagen Amarok utility vehicle parked flush against his flatbed truck with its headlights blazing. Sensing a crime in progress amidst ongoing national fuel cost pressures, James reacted instantly. Bolting out the front door completely barefoot, he ran down the driveway to confront the offender directly on the tarmac.

The dramatic phone footage shows James stumbling upon a young man with a clear plastic siphoning tube held directly in his mouth, actively drawing diesel out of the truck's fuel tank and into a large container. Caught entirely off guard, the stunned thief could only stammer as James hilariously barked, "What are you doing, bro? You're dropping all my flaming diesel!" While the thief managed to quickly scramble back into his vehicle and flee the scene, he left behind all of his siphoning equipment, which has since been handed over to Queensland Police forensic investigators. James notes that while his fuel gauge is currently reading zero, he is optimistic that the distinct camera footage will help local authorities rapidly identify the perpetrator.
