#DDay75 Parachute Jump Pegasus Bridge Daks Over Normandy

0016hrs 6th of June 1944 - Operation Deadstick precedes the biggest invasion in world history.
The men under Major John Howard of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry land their Horsa glider just 4 yards from their target - the bridge over the river Orne near Benouville, Normandy France. The men took two bridges in just 10 minutes with unbelievable skill and audacity -sadly one bridge Lieutenant Brotheridge was shot and killed, being the first casualty among the first men to fight on D Day.

The aircraft seen here are a Spitfire from the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the Dakota DC3 and C47s of the organisation Daks Over Normandy - many of these planes flew on from USA and all over the world to honour the fallen paratroopers in this sector of Normandy.
