Exploring the old fishing village of Perast Montenegro whilst on a day trip from Kotor. I went out looking for things to see in Montenegro and was very pleased to have seen Perast and its tiny islands.

Take a walk with me around Little Venice - a small fishing village transformed by the Republic of Venice when they ruled here between 1420 and 1797. Under the Venetians the town flourished – shipbuilders came from all around to work on the latest vessels and its natural harbour established it as an important trading post. This led to a sharp increase in wealth and prosperity and with it a profusion of grand palaces, churches and mansions - most of which are still around today.

Perast is also renowned for its two islets less than half a kilometre out in the bay – our Lady of the Rocks which is man-made and a popular tourist destination, and the naturally occurring private island of St George. I didn’t visit either but did manage to get some great drone shots of both.

Walking through the streets of Perast for a few hours gave me a real appreciation of just how eventful the areas history has been. Venetian architecture, bobbling fishing boats and a stunning waterfront promenade made for some awesome photo opportunities – and left me quite satisfied that my race around the bay to get there before sunset had been worth it.

Perast is around a 20 minute drive from Kotor and is perfect for a day trip or half day adventure. I spent just a few hours walking around the village but I did feel I could have done with more time. A half day would have been ideal.
