Who decides what the greater good is?

The Utility Monster is Robert Nozick's famous thought experiment - and his takedown of utilitarianism.

We've launched a new platform to highlight and teach the ideas of liberty, including Nozickian Libertarianism. Check it out if you're interested in a deeper dive (https://www.learnliberty.org/sfl-academy/academiccourses/).

In this video, Lesson 11 of our course on the Philosophy of Libertarianism, Chris Freiman, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the College of William and Mary, asserts that individuals are not just "cogs in the machine," required to sacrifice themselves to the whims and desires of the Utility Monster.

He also touches on Consequentialist Libertarianism, which holds that freedom is important because it's beneficial to the whole community. But when it comes to Egalitarianism, there's a case to be made against Libertarianism. See that video, up next.
