La batalla del Jarama enfrentó, en febrero de 1937, al ejercito nacional y el republicano por la toma de Madrid tras la estabilización del frente en la ciudad universitaria. El ataque franquista pretendía cortar la carretera nacional 3 e impedir las comunicaciones entre Madrid y Valencia, donde se encontraba el gobierno. La ubicación concreta donde se encuentran estas galerías (La Marañosa) fue tomada por tropas nacionales dirigidas por el coronel Rada, pese al inicial avance nacional la República consiguió aguantar el envite y los nacionales no tomaron la carretera de Valencia.

The 'Battle of Jarama,' took place in February of 1937, between Franco's 'Nationalist' army, and the the Spanish republican army.The principal aim of the nationalist army, was to conquer Madrid and, therefore, cut all communication between Madrid and Valencia, where the republican goverment was installed. The place you can see in the video was captured by nationalist forces led by colonel Rada, but republican troops could finally defend the road to Valencia and Franco´s plan didn´t succeed.
