How to Plant Trees and Bushes in Clay

Planting in clay soil is no fun. The biggest issue is root rot. Since clay holds water, when you dig a hole for a bush or a tree, you end up making a bowl. That bowl holds water from rain or irrigation and this causes the roots to rot on plants as they are just sitting in water. Today I am showing you how I plant a fruit tree in black clay soil.

Tips:
- Plant the tree above the ground line by a few inches.
- Use a better draining soil as an amendment.
- Mix your amendment with native soil so the plant can acclimate.
- Slop the soil away from the tree so some of the water will drain away from the hole and the tree.
