Fighthing Game Combo | Gaming Trivia #gaming #videogames #trivia #facts

While Capcom was developing Street Fighter II, the developers discovered something completely unintended.

Because of animation timing and hit-stun interactions, certain attacks could hit opponents repeatedly before they had time to recover or defend themselves.

Today, that mechanic is known as a “combo.”

Interestingly, combos were never meant to be an official feature.
At first, the developers considered them a small glitch or bug in the game system.

But after testing it further, they realized the mechanic actually made gameplay feel faster, more competitive, and much more exciting.

So instead of removing it, they decided to keep it in the final version of the game.

Akira Nishitani later explained that combos appeared accidentally during development.

The Japanese arcade version of the game even started displaying:

“X HIT COMBO”

to let players know they had successfully chained attacks together.

From that point on, combos became one of the core foundations of the fighting game genre.

Almost every modern fighting game—from Tekken and Marvel vs. Capcom to Mortal Kombat—uses combo systems as a major part of gameplay.

From a small glitch… to one of the most iconic mechanics in video game history.
