2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Off-Road Test Drive & SUV Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/jeep/grand-cherokee/2014/?id=32972 For the 2014 model year, Jeep has given the Grand Cherokee a nice exterior update to go along with the multiple engine choices. The 5 different trim levels include the Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit, and SRT models. Base price if $28,795 with the top of the line SRT model going for $62,995. The model seen here in this review is the Overland 4x4 which costs $45,995.
There have been some significant restyles for 2014 on both the outside and inside. The changes to the exterior consist of a new front end with a different unique grille for each model, new headlights featuring LED daytime running lamps, LED taillights, and new wheels.
The whole interior engineering team from Jeep spent years updating the interior on their SUV line-up and the result is a wonderful interior that takes Jeep from boring and mundane into the luxury world to compete with the best in the business. On the inside there is a ton going on with a new steering wheel, large 8.4 inch navigation touch screen, and Command View Sunroof which extends practically the length of the vehicle. Something else very exciting is the selection of high end materials and fabrics on the interior. The wood trim is actual open pore meaning you can feel the bumps and grooves.
There are 4 different engines offered throughout the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee line-up. The first is a 3.6 liter Pentastar V-6 that produces 290 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. New for this year is a 3.0 liter V-6 EcoDiesel engine making 240 horsepower and a whopping 420 lb-ft. of torque. This diesel engine also has low CO2 emissions thanks to the clean diesel technology. Stepping up to the larger V-8 engines there is an optional 5.4 liter HEMI V-8 that makes 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft. of torque. Finally the engine in the SRT high performance model is a 6.4 liter HEMI that makes 470 horsepower and 465 lb-ft. of torque. All four engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy for the 3.6 liter 4x2 is 17 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway.
The driving dynamics on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland are outstanding. The Quadra-Drive II 4WD system is amazingly capable off-road in any condition including, mud, ice, snow, and sand. On the road the Grand Cherokee is a great drive and can tow up to 7400 lbs which is best in class. This SUV is a solid buy when matched up against the competition. On a final note the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is made here in the U.S.A.
