High Crag is an area within The Misty Mountains in the central region. This area lies crammed between steep ridges, south-east, and south of Western Bruinen Source and East respectively, and north of Giant Halls. To the south, the two narrow passes are guarded by the Dourhand fortress of Gabilazan to the west and the trolls and giants of Rakhâs-bizar to the east. Pockets of forests with bears, hawks, and mammoths are spread around the hillsides and many deep dead-end valleys. Some ruins remind explorers about old times when the dwarves mined for gold and silver.

North High Pass is an area within the Misty Mountains in the north-eastern region. The name implies that this area was nothing more than a travelers route, high up mountain passes once were connecting the western realms with northern-most Rhovanion and the Lonely Mountain beyond. However, this couldn't be further from the truth, as it is the most renowned area of the Misty Mountains. That is because a curious throng traveled through quite some time ago, on the Quest of Erebor and unexpectedly came across, or rather was dragged into, a kingdom of goblins that exists yet today. In fact, travel of any kind through the area will be met with aggression from either the many patrolling goblins or the packs of wargs that inhabit the area.

This is the north-east-most of all areas of the Misty Mountains, connected only to its southern sibling, South High Pass, and Eastern Bruinen Source. Despite this, it is debatable that it is the most densely inhabited part of the Misty Mountains, whether by enemies or allies. Many leagues of goblins can be found throughout the area in their camps as expected due to the infamous Goblin-town being located here. Packs of wargs can be found amidst the long-abandoned, Giant ruins of Starkhath and Dómstoll.

Though adventurers must watch out for the goblins and wargs in the vale, hunters will find plenty of meat and hide from the reindeer and mammoths grazing about. The area is characterized by narrow rifts and rocks and boulders covered with high-up bodies of snow. Trees and bushes are sparse, notwithstanding blistering storms reminiscent of a legendary blizzard that wiped out the inhabitants of Hrimbarg long ago. Travelers may wish to wait on these storms as visibility drops to virtually zero.

Southern High Pass is an area within the Misty Mountains in the south-eastern region. Alongside its northern counterpart, this area makes up half of the eastern section of the Misty Mountains. Unlike Northern High Pass, which possesses the entrance to the notorious Goblin-town, Southern High Pass is relatively unremarkable in comparison. This dale, located just south of Hrimbarg, is somewhat warmer than the northern High Pass as shown by several areas where the ice has melted, and the water trapped beneath flows freely. The valley is characterized by the large, mostly frozen lake in the center, snow-brushed fir trees, and rocky cliff sides and outcroppings.

Hunters of all sorts gravitate to this area for its rich population of worms that spill out of the Writhenbores, though they also need to be wary of the local Gauredain and their wolf companions who often wander from their camps at Erforgh Cleft. Small herds of mammoths may be found in some quiet pockets as well. A narrow route runs from the Giant Halls via Men Helch and Ceber Los in the west, though the way through is well patrolled by giants. (wiki.com)
