🇷🇴 📸 The Red Lake is the largest barrier lake in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains. It is located in the foothills of the Hășmașul Mare Mountain, near the Bicaz Gorges, and it was formed after the collapse of a slope caused by an earthquake in 1838.
The Red Lake got its name from the nearby Red Creek, which is filled with various alluvia of a reddish color, such as iron oxides and hydroxides.
The lake is a great tourist attraction, having a valley that is safeguarded by strong winds. The clean and rich air and the picturesque surroundings offer great conditions for relaxation, and near the lake, there are several merchants who sell souvenirs and local street food.
The Red Lake was also known as the Killer Lake, and there's a legend behind that name. It is said that when the slope collapsed over the nearby village, the landfall killed most of the inhabitants of the village, as well the animals. In the water was so much blood from all the victims, that the lake got the name of The Red Lake or The Killer Lake.
To make matters more creepy, of the forest that was covered by the lake only tree stumps remained, and over time they got turned into stone due to the sediments. Now, the spruce trunks that barely come out of the water look just like tombstones.

🇷🇴 📸 Bicazului Gorges - the most spectacular road pass in Romania . The road that slices through the gorges is among Romania’s most spectacular. This stunning gorge has a part that is so narrow that it is known as "The Neck Of Hell." The gorge has the local name of Cheile Bicazului . This scenic drive is spectacular with sheer cliffs rising literally from the edges of the road. The road inside this canyon looks like serpentine windings. The limy walls of the crags hide amazing caves (The Black Cave and The Waterfall Cave) and also circular precipices (Licas, the precipice with three entrances). This road is very exciting and sometimes very exposed and unsecured driveway in innumerable twists and turns. This infamous road is tightly hairpinned and bumped, an exquisite winding mountain drive with sharp and blind curves and hairpin switchbacks leading the traveler over the mountains. Legend has it that the ‘red lake’ or ‘killer lake’ was formed from the flowing blood of a group of hapless picnickers who had the misfortune to be sitting beneath the mountainside when it collapsed, crushing them to death.

🇷🇴 📸 Bicaz Dam and the artificial Lake "Izvorul Muntelui", also known as Lake Bicaz, is the largest artificial lake on the interior waters of Romania; it was created after the completion of a dam built on the river Bistrița. The dam is located a few kilometers north of the town of Bicaz.
The “Izvorul Muntelui” barrier lake is another tourist attraction (it’s 35 km long on an area of 33 square meters.) and it is also known as “The Bicaz Lake.” This is the largest artificial lake from Romania, being situated on the higher course of the river Bistrita. This place was formed as a result of the building of the Bicaz hydro-energetic dam, which is 127 m tall. (in order for it to be built, more than 170.000 cube meters were excavated). It is used to generate hydroelectricity at the Bicaz Stejaru hydro-plant.

🇷🇴 📸 Abandoned mine in Tarnița.
Tarnița, Suceva County, the bleeding wound from the heart of Bucovina, The exploitation of the Leșu Ursului deposit began on July 1, 1965, and during its short existence, around 45,000 people worked here. The activity was definitively stopped in 2006, and later the greening works began. If in the area where the offices, the administrative headquarters, the central office and a hostel for non-familists functioned, things have been brought to zero and everything is green, the situation is diametrically opposite at the preparation plant and the micro settling ponds.
The third largest pond in Europe is at Tarnița: it has 15 million cubic meters of tailings.
