When a baby is born in a modern hospital the first thing it sees or experiences is the bright brass noisy operating room. The baby is helped out of the mother's womb by the doctor, and the next thing that happens is its lifted by the ankles and smacked on the backside. After that it's crying to beat the band, and then it's wiped off with a rough cloth. Then it's plopped down on the cold metal scale so the mother can see how much it weighs. According to Dr. Frédérick Leboyer there is a better and more considerate way to deliver a child.
