The Bukhara Jews: The Story of a Quarter

The Jewish community has been founded here 2000 years ago, just after the Babylonian captivity.

In the Middle Asia these people are called «The Bukhara Jews» - is the oldest Jewish community in the Diaspora, in spite of the Mohammedan milieu they don’t assimilate and although they speak Uzbek language perfectly and it’s hardly possible to distinguish them from the Moslems, in the Jewish district they keep to their customs, forgotten long ago by the Jews of the Diaspora. The last wedding in the Jewish district of Bukhara and the last public worship in the synagogue, the last funeral and the last Bar mizwa.

The history of the Jews of Bukhara came to its end. Why did it happen?

This film has to answer this question.
