In the 1960s it was called "Bulgaria's Nostradamus" in reference to the famous prophets of the Middle Ages. She was also known as the "Seherin von Petritsch". The country's communist leadership made use of Baba Wanga's intellectual powers: she worked at the Institute of Suggestology at the country's Academy of Sciences.

The hit rate of their statements was scientifically examined there and was said to be a remarkable 80 percent. Other clairvoyants reached only 20 percent true predictions.
