Caslick Operation in a Mare.

Also known as vulvoplasty, this surgical procedure closes the top portion of a mare's vulva to prevent contamination of the vagina.
This procedure is necessary in some broodmares with poor conformation in the perineal area. Without the procedure, the mare could experience an infection that could lead to loss of the foal.
The bottom portion is left open so the mare can urinate.
