11 Understanding Layers in Sketchable App

I once heard an amazing artist say: "Layers are Free" and to me that meant that as long as the app you are drawing in has Layers, then use them freely to help build your art.

Layers are helpful to separate the different elements in a drawing. A layer for the sketch, a layer for the outline, a layer for color and a layer for shading, a layer for... you get the idea!

Study the work of your favorite artist and pay attention to how they use layers to create their work. From traditional to digital art, layers are important!

My digital drawing journey has allowed me to move my creative process from traditional to digital materials. I am happy to share some of my insights when it comes to an app I really enjoy on my Surface Pro: Sketchable App
