Third grade advocates
For the past three years, Gordon third graders have been making proposals on how to revitalize Gordon’s pond.
It was seriously impacted by erosion during the first year of COVID.
Third graders have studied how the water and the oxygen, the plants and the oxygen, and the land use around the pond have contributed to an ecosystem’s collapse.
It’s part of their science work.
It’s also a part of their advocacy work.
Three years of third graders have been making proposals to the school’s staff and the buildings and grounds committee.
And this spring, the work on the pond turned a corner.
Students across the school have noticed the renewal efforts paying off.
But for the current third, fourth and fifth graders, the sight is especially exciting.
It was their science, and their advocacy, that made the difference.
