The Permanent Cure of Dr Adams: John Bodkin Adams, 1957
Rumours concerning the Eastbourne practice of Dr John Bodkin Adams were rife in the 1950s - and had been for over 2 decades - when yet another wealthy widow died, leaving a large bequest to him. An anonymous tip-off led to an investigation by Scotland Yard and the arrest and subsequent trial for murder of Dr Adams. But Adams had many friends at the highest levels of the judiciary and police force and ultimately, in spite of the enormous volume of evidence against him, he was found "Not Guilty". The full extent of his crimes was not fully known until the police and prosecution files were released early in 2003 - these strongly suggest that Dr Adams was the greatest serial killer in British history.
