The Five Golden Rules of Tennis

Becoming a better tennis player takes practice and dedication, however, knowing what to focus on is almost like a shortcut to success.
Follow these five tennis rules for rapid tennis improvements:
Golden Rule One - Tracking the ball at all times. The most important aspect of tennis, yet the most neglected by the vast majority of tennis players.
We all know we should watch the ball properly, yet it's the first thing that goes out of the window when we get on the tennis court.
We focus on the opponent, we focus on our own strokes, yet neglect the main thing - to see the ball properly at all times.
This means that you're tracking the ball coming off the opponent's racket, seeing the ball cross the net, seeing it bounce on your side, seeing it rise up to your strings and seeing the ball come off your racket. By tracking the tennis ball properly, you'll hit the ball much cleaner, be quicker to react and move to the ball and feel better on the tennis court.
Golden Rule Two - A cardinal sin when playing tennis is holding your breath. When we hold our breath, our bodies will get tight, will get tense and will get tired much quicker than if we're breathing properly. The ideal way to breathe on court is to inhale when preparing for your shot and exhale prior to and during the contact point.
By doing this, you'll help keep the muscles relaxed but you'll also have more energy on court and be able to play at a higher level for longer.
Golden Rule Three - Consistent tennis wins tennis matches. The number one rule of any tennis match is to be consistent. Too many players fall victim to the hero syndrome. They go for too much, they try to blast the ball, they go for the lines, basically they defeat themselves by trying to play amazing tennis. Don't be a hero on court, be consistent.
If your opponent breaks down before you, you'll win the match.
Golden Rule Four - Eliminate the obstacles. There are two main obstacles on the tennis court, the net and the lines. We can eliminate both by playing with good net clearance and by hitting with good topspin. The net clearance will eliminate the net and the topspin will get the ball to dip before the lines.
Golden Rule Five - Play the percentages. On the baseline, this means hitting around 80% of your groundstrokes crosscourt. By hitting crosscourt, we gain three major advantages:
1. The net is the lowest in the middle. In singles, the net should be 3 feet in the middle and 3.6 feet at the singles sticks. That's a six-inch difference.
2. We have much more space to hit into when we hit crosscourt. If you aim down the line and hit the ball slightly late, the ball will end up in the tramlines or beyond.
If you aim crosscourt and hit the ball slightly late, the ball will end up in the middle of the court.
3. We reduce the amount of space we need to recover before the next shot.
When approaching the net, aim most of your approach shots down the line. This will help you position yourself properly to cover the down the line pass.
