Nationally, there were 57.55 thousand (28.51-113.70
thousand) estimated new HIV infections in 2020.
State/UT-wise, Maharastra is estimated to have the
highest number of new HIV infections in 2020 (7.82
thousand) followed by 5.63 thousand in Uttar
Pradesh, 5.59 thousand in Bihar, 3.80 thousand in
West Bengal, 2.90 thousand in Delhi and 2.74
thousand in Madhya Pradesh.

Nationally, annual new HIV infections have decreased
by 48% since 2010. The decline in annual new HIV
infections has been noted in all States except for
Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, and Dadar Nagar Haveli
and Daman Diu. Highest decline has been noted in

Karnataka (82%) followed by Himachal Pradesh (78%)
and Gujarat (72%). Annual new HIV infections are
estimated to have increased in Tripura, Arunachal
Pradesh, and Dadar Nagar Haveli and Daman Diu.
While it is stable in Chhattisgarh.
