Matty Matheson Shows Why Big Guys Struggle to Wear Dior, Off-White & Other Luxury Brands

Luxury fashion isn’t for everyone. Imposing price tags and adventurous designs keep some shoppers away, while Canadian chef, TV host and internet personality Matty Matheson has his own set of qualms: primarily, the clothes are just far too small. “Virgil, make some sizes for the big boys, ‘kay,” Matheson asks, while wearing an entirely unbuttoned silky Off-White™ shirt. “Big boys have money. I woulda bought this but guess what: doesn’t fit the big boy? No money for you.”

“I’ve always worn band shirts,” Matheson explains, sitting in Patron Of The New. “See, I don’t even know anything about fashion. Fashion’s so crazy, like I [could say] I like this and everyone’s gonna be like ‘Oh my god, you like that brand?’” Matheson exploded in popularity after appearing on VICE‘s Munchies, later hosting VICELAND’s It’s Suppertime! and Dead Set on Life, with his charismatic, larger-than-life personality inspiring an independent career fueled by YouTube, Instagram and podcasts.

Matheson’s signature look revolves around vintage clothes and comfy chinos, often showcasing his full-body tattoos and playful hairstyles. “I’ll wear a crop top, I’ll wear whatever, like … I don’t really care” he expounds. “Everything doesn’t have to work. You don’t have to wear every brand, you don’t have to wear every style. … I think more people have to find what makes them feel comfortable.”

After discovering the restrictive cuts that prevent Matheson from buttoning his selected shirts, “The Flavour Lord” gets contemplative. “There’s moments where I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin,” reflects Matheson. “But it’s really important to know that will pass. Everyone has their own lane in every situation. Would I have loved that Off-White™ … waterfall blouse? I would’ve, but today was not my day — and that's ok. I just gotta keep truckin’.”
