UNEXPECTED SIZE! from a 50L Soil Bag! (40% Sand Mix) - 200-170 Days

My favouriteee harvest from all the sweet potatoes grown in the middle of the garden! 😃🤩 Sweet potato harvest 2/5 for 2026! 😁🍠 For this video, i am harvesting a purple skinned, white fleshed sweet potato grown in a 50L & 25L soil bag with a sand mix! So the sand mix is around 40%, with the rest being compost & existing soil. The main purpose for this was to have a cleaner harvest of sweet potato roots, and i think i achieved that! 😂

🔸 Variety: Purple skin, white flesh(probably Northern Star)
🔸 Growing space: 50L soil bag & a 25L soil bag
🔸 Days grown: 200 days(50L) & 170 days(25L)
🔸 Purchased: Bunnings Warehouse

This, was, the most, unexpected harvest ever!! 🤣😲🤯 Never would i have thought i'd get sweet potato root of this size, in a soil bag! And x2 aswell! 😂🤩 This is basically just 200-300g grams less than my purple giant attempt from last year! 😮 This was all it took to make it my favourite harvest and making me a very happy gardener 😂😍 So 6.5kg & 6.1kg, my lucky harvest 🥰 Even tho it was luck, it's potential and evident that it grew large roots with a sand mix. Pure compost mix is still very very ideal, sweet potatoes are heavy feeders and they don't need soft soil like potting mix to grow big roots, i did have to water and fertilize this a little more often due to the faster drainage of the sand, so there's that, but yeah, possible the texture & composition of the sand mixed with the compost was quite ideal! So i will be moving forward adding sand to all my sweet potato plants now! 😁 I will have to run small tests for normal potatoes tho, they are NOT the same as sweet potatoes, and it could! have a negative affect than a positive one... things to try next season or so! 💪

Anyways, this is my favourite harvest, i really love it!(this was the last one harvested, i harvested the towers the day before) 😁
