SC in its recent judgement has quashed the conspiracy to change the Constitution. The words "secular" and "socialist" are not be removed from the constitution. The words were added in 1976 under the 42nd Amendment. Before the addition of these words, the Preamble of the Constitution mentioned India as a "sovereign, democratic republic". A bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar heard the petitions.
