A Japanese Oisín went to Tír na nÓg

“A Japanese Oisín went to Tír na nÓg.” -

(the story of Urashima Taro - narrated in the Irish language with English subtitles)

A fisher boy went to the Land of Youth and spent three years there. He returned to his home village only to find that not three years but several hundred years had passed ….this legend, which astonishingly resembles the Celtic myth “Oisín in Tír na nÓg”, had been recorded as an “historical incident” in official documents in the 8th century in Japan. Is this just a coincidence or did somebody bring the story of Oisín to Japan more than a thousand years ago? This video with beautiful illustrations and original music shows a mysterious ancient connection between Ireland and Japan.
