Black and Decker RC506 6-Cup Rice Cooker

The Black + Decker 6-Cup Rice Cooker model RC506. At the time of this taping, the unit retails for ~$21. My initial run did not go too well, the rice was very wet and a sticky film seeped out of the steam vent during operation and made a total mess of the machine and the counter. After a few trails, I find the machine to be exceptional.

I use about half the water as recommended in the manual, and I rinse the rice a few times before putting into the machine. This may be specific to the type of rice I am using, I have not experimented with other types yet. After cooking, soaking the pot in warm water for 15 minutes will loosen whatever rice remnants exist and it cleans up easily with the kitchen sink sprayer. Wipes clean with a towel.

Once I got used to using the machine, it makes cooking rice simple and hassle-free. The rice comes out quite nicely, evenly cooked and can be adjusted to preference. Cleans up easily afterwards. It does take some time, but the machine is automatic and doesn't require any user interaction while operating. It comes with a nice spoon for scooping the rice. Haven't tested the vegetable steamer yet but it seems like it would work fine. The only thing that bothers me is the very short cord, kitchen appliances used to have regulations that required the cords to be 3', this wire doesn't even seen to be 2'.

Time will tell how long it lasts, but at this price, even if it only makes 5 meals it's still cheaper than eating out! I suspect it will last quite a while, I've used a number of Black&Decker products over the years and consistently had good results.
