Chaewook Lim - Prudential Eye Awards - 2014

Shortlisted artist Chaewook Lim explains the synergy between oriental painting and his photography of mountains in South Korea.

Born in 1970 in SeongJu and currently living in Seoul, Korea, Chaewook Lim creates images that capture South Korean mountains and landscapes, emphasising their sublime grandeur and the surreal quality of the scenery. His practice explores nature using intricate form and colour in photographs composed through horizontal and vertical lines, negative space, and vivid primary colours. Having studied traditional oriental ink scenery paintings, Lim uses photography to bring to life the shan-shui style of depicting natural scenery.

The inaugural Prudential Eye Awards celebrate and support emerging artistic talent across greater Asia. We believe that Asian artists should benefit from greater opportunities for their work to reach audiences and receive recognition at an international level.

The awards will recognise a shortlist of emerging artists working in various disciplines from the rich and diverse cultures across greater Asia.

The shortlisted artists will feature in a prominent exhibition in Singapore's Suntec City from 17 January 2014 to 5 February 2014.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Suntec City, Singapore on 18 January 2014.
