ABC Transcription Tools - Type Your ABC Using a USB or Bluetooth MIDI Keyboard

On the desktop version of Chrome and Firefox, you now have the option of typing your ABC using a USB or Bluetooth MIDI keyboard.

This feature has been tested on the Mac version of Chrome and Firefox, it may work on other browsers that support Web MIDI as well.

On Firefox, you will need to give the tool page permission to access your MIDI devices and then restart Firefox.

The note text entered will have only the note name and octave without any sharp, flat, or natural indication: (G, A, B, C D E F G A B c d e f g a b c' d' etc.)

If you require specific sharps, flats, or naturals on the notes, you will need to add them manually.

To add a space, bar line, or other common useful ABC staff construction patterns after entering a MIDI note, you can use the MIDI text macro shortcuts described below.

The range of the ABC notes for MIDI note entry is from C, to c'' (MIDI notes 48 - 96).

The octave below C, starting on C,, (MIDI note 36) is used for inserting useful common ABC text macros.

This map shows the MIDI note number and the text inserted:

This feature has been tested with both USB and Bluetooth MIDI keyboards on a Mac running Chrome and Firefox.
