The Economics of Crime and Punishment (Bristol Festival of Economics 2014)

We usually think of policing and punishment in terms of justice, or broader social trends, but economics provides an invaluable lens on why and where crimes occur, on which groups of people feature disproportionately in the criminal justice system, and on the impact and effectiveness of punishment.

Speakers include: Steve Machin, LSE; Vicky Pryce, author and consultant; Brian Bell, University of Oxford; Frances Crook, The Howard League for Penal Reform. Chaired by Chris Giles, FT.

Part of Festival of Economics 2014. Festival of Economics is presented by Bristol Ideas: https://www.bristolideas.co.uk/
