Sophia Loren, pseudonimo di Sofia Costanza Brigida Villani Scicolone (Roma, 20 settembre 1934), è un'attrice italiana[1].
Considerata una delle più celebri attrici italiane della storia, la Loren entra a far parte della Settima arte giovanissima e si impone ben presto, agli inizi degli anni cinquanta, grazie ai suoi ruoli in film comici come Pane, amore e... e in pellicole di stampo hollywoodiano, ad esempio Un marito per Cinzia e La baia di Napoli, per il quale è stata candidata al Golden Globe, ma dimostra anche una grande capacità drammatica con il ruolo in Orchidea nera, grazie al quale vince la Coppa Volpi per la migliore interpretazione femminile.
Verrà diretta nel 1960 da Vittorio De Sica ne La ciociara, per il quale vinse il Premio Oscar, il primo dato ad un'attrice in un film non in lingua inglese. Viene candidata nuovamente al Premio Oscar alla miglior attrice protagonista nel 1965 per il film Matrimonio all'italiana e nel 1991 le viene assegnato l'Oscar alla carriera. Altri suoi film che hanno fatto la storia del cinema italiano sono Una giornata particolare e Ieri, oggi, domani.
Durante la sua carriera è stata diretta da Sidney Lumet, Charlie Chaplin, Martin Ritt, Carol Reed, George Cukor, Henry Hathaway, Robert Altman, Dino Risi, Mario Monicelli, Ettore Scola e Vittorio De Sica e ha recitato accanto a Marcello Mastroianni, Marlon Brando, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, Gregory Peck, William Holden, John Wayne, Paul Newman, Burt Lancaster, Richard Harris e Richard Burton.
Ha vinto numerosi riconoscimenti (tra onorari e competitivi), inclusi due premi Oscar, cinque premi Golden Globe, un Leone d'oro, un Grammy Award, una Coppa Volpi al Festival di Venezia, un Prix al Festival di Cannes, un Orso d'oro al Festival di Berlino, un premio BAFTA, dieci premi David di Donatello, tre premi Nastri d'argento ed è stata onorata con una stella sulla celebre Hollywood Walk of Fame.
