How to start a T shirt printing Business using Heat press Transfer Paper
You could make around $4,433 a day if you follow this Business plan. To start a T-shirt business, you only really need 5 simple things, and you can get started within 3 days. Now I have seen a few videos on the T-shirt business, but they don’t about the different aspects of the business and the various ways to actually get started.
Tee Spring: My Merch
This is the hands-off methods really if you want to build a website in seconds and have an outside source move your product this is the best option. Your profit will range from 5-15 depending on how high you want to make it.
China Importing
This is finding a company outside of the us to print the shirts for you but at a much lower cost, and you will need to be involved. Not only that, but you’ll have to sell the products yourself and ship them also. Unless this outside outsources also have a selling portable for shipping.
Do it Yourself
This one is my favorite by far because you can do it yourself. Yes, but you can also create a business model from it. Since you’ll have all the machines necessary to start the business, you can also become a supplier for other people or companies, and you can handle their orders.
Pro Tip: Create original designs, but if you don’t want to do that. Make sure to get permission to print others work or brands.
Production rate:
Heat temp 180-190 to get print: 13-second press per shirt) 16hours of work a day and 960 minutes = 57600 seconds /13 seconds per shirt = 4,430 shirts a day OMG. Imagine making just a dollar on each shirt That’s still $4,430
Business Model
You can either create your own T-shirts and sell them, print other people designs and sell it to them, or be a source and print all the t-shirts for a specific company.
1. Startup Cost –
Transfer Paper: Price range $15-$75
Heat Press: Price Range $150 - $300 bucks
Inkjet printer: Price Range $50 - $500
T-shirt Supplier: Price Range $4.60 - $8 (start with $10)
LLC: legal zoom $115 - $400 bucks depending on if you want a lot of extras like tax help and etc
Total Cost: Low end = $370.6 and on the High end = $1,355
On a Budget Start-Up
- You can buy a used Heat Press maybe 50-100 bucks
- Or just use a Standard Iron to do it $20 (it will take longer, and you might see cracking if not careful)
- Buy T-shirts from goodwill or Red Cross
- Use ink checks at libraries or job
Tips
• Cut the Excess white area on the Transfer Paper
• Mirror image, so the words don’t come out backward
• Heat press Transfer paper (different for dark and light fabric)
• Model for the Heat doesn’t matter just make sure the Temp goes Beyond 180-190degress
• Use the reusable silicon paper to stick to the front while you print the back so it's protected
2. Expenses:
Where you sell: eBay 10-12%
Your own website: Per transaction and maintenance. 2-5% plus the monthly fee to run. Maybe 29-100 bucks
Cost of Goods: the good thing is you can depreciate the equipment on your taxes
Cost would be:
Each Sheet Cost: $.15
Each T shirt: $5 (high end)
Ink on Printer: $70 = 1900 pages (per unit .04)
Electricity Cost: depends on your Carrier
Total Cost: Estimate of $5.18 - $7
Sell for $10-$15 Each Shirt
Profits –
It’s a volume Game:
You pick your profit margin, I recommend 20-30% of your cost
Example: 13 second press per shirt) 16 hours and 960 minutes 57600 seconds /13 seconds per shirt = 4,430 shirts a day OMG
- Sale Price $10 - $15 | Gross would be $44,430 low end and $66,450 high end
- Cost Price $5.18 - $7 | low end $22,947.40 and High end $31,010
- Profit | Net Low End $21,483 and high end $35,440
Ideas for Volume: Create a T-shirt around events like concerts, Colleges, Father’s day, and so.
