Breakthrough for Safranised Kaveri engine, achieves stable thrust

Update: France is asking too much money for this so Kaveri will be utilized only for UCAV. AMCA will have a new indigenous engine, DRDO is looking for collaboration.

9 prototypes of the engine and 4 prototypes of Kaveri core engine have realised till 2016. K5/K6/K7/K8/K9 tested for total 185 hrs in 2016 & 145 hrs in 2017. In 2017, some critical tests carried out for the first time. Most of the Engine tests were carried out under installed conditions( i.e., with power off-take, customer bleed and inlet distortion). Safran after carried out a technical audit on the Kaveri engine development, stated in the report that the Kaveri engine has attained sufficient level of maturity for carrying out a limited envelope flight test integrated with an aircraft. GTRE issued EoI for Altitude Tests of Kaveri Engine and its Derivative in Aug,18.
