Astrophotography : How Dark Frames Work (Tutorial)

Important : I said the wrong thing about settings when stacking the darks. Here are the best settings for dark stacking : PI SETTINGS :
- Combination: Average
- Normalization: No normalization
- Weights: Don't care (all weights = 1)

Pixel Rejection
- Rejection algorithm: Winsorized Sigma Clipping
- Normalization: No normalization

Dark Frames are really the first thing you need to get a hang of when learning to process astrophotography. I’ll show you how I do it with PixInsight, though the concept is the same in whatever program you use.
