A great pair of sunglasses or the right necklace can pull your look together and give you that extra edge. So it’s no surprise that the most common styling question Anine gets is about accessorizing, and more specifically, how to layer jewelry. She’s the queen of arm, neck, and ear stacks, and she’s always adding new pieces to the mix. Her unique layers exude the rock ‘n’ roll edge and cool ease that’s become synonymous with the ANINE BING brand.
If you’re looking for some style inspiration and tips on how to layer your jewelry, check out the video below for an up-close look at Anine’s daily approach to styling earrings, necklaces, and rings.
Tips for Layering Jewelry
1. Build over time; don’t get ten ear piercings at once! Like decorating your home or building a beautiful wardrobe full of cherished, well-loved pieces, your jewelry collection should grow over time. The best way to create a collection you love is with time and intention.
2. Consider traditions. “Something fun I do each year is get new piercings and tattoos on my birthday,” Anine explains. “It’s a nice way to commemorate the process of getting older, and have something special associated with each new year.” Make it a tradition to get a new piercing with girlfriends as a “galentine’s” event on Valentine’s Day each year; or make jewelry shopping something you treat yourself to on New Year’s Eve or during each new place you visit.
3. For a well-mixed ear, start with at least one of the following types of earrings:
Stud
Hoop
Huggie
Drop Charm
4. For necklaces, Anine decides what she’s going to layer each day based on the neckline of the top she’s wearing. One of her favorite combinations is a choker-length beaded chain, mid-length cross necklace, and finally, a gold disc charm as the longest piece.
5. With rings, Anine suggests investing in one personalized, heavy-weight, gold signet ring; and then layering in different widths and textures for variety. “Above all, there are no rules,” she says. “Get creative, go crazy, and have fun.”
