The first stock Warren Buffett is likely to buy in 2023 is technology stock Apple (AAPL 0.43%). Although Apple accounts for almost 40% of the assets of Berkshire Hathaway, Omaha Oracle has been clear in the past that it represents one of the "big four" of its company. and is ready to add any price weakness. With interest rates rising rapidly and yields facing their biggest volatility in decades, the winds of recession are blowing. If the US economy were to fall into recession in 2023, cyclical companies like Apple would feel the sting. On the bright side, that would give Buffett an opportunity to add. One of the best things about Apple, and one of the main reasons it's Buffett's holding company, is its capital return program. After buying more than 194 million shares of oil and gas oil and gas company Occidental Petroleum (OXY -0.75%) in 2022, you might feel like Warren Buffett has had more than enough. However, in August, Berkshire received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to increase its stake in Occidental to 50%. Berkshire's share in Occidental is currently at 21.4%, which is a clear indication that Buffett and his team have not made a purchase. Before 2022, energy stocks have not accounted for more than 8.9% of Buffett's invested assets. This year, they settled in the third sector of Berkshire (13% of invested assets). This is likely related to the fact that oil and gas prices are expected to remain above average for some time. Two important factors affect the global electricity chain. First, Russia attacked Ukraine, which questioned the importance of European power. The second problem is that power companies are reducing their investment in capital during this pandemic. Without any means to increase the supply of oil and gas, the two energy products may remain high for several years. The third stock Warren Buffett seems to buy in 2023 is media company Paramount Global (PARA 1.57%). Despite the larger share, Berkshire bought nearly 12.8 million more shares of Paramount last quarter. Historically, the Oracle of Omaha has been a proponent of acquiring media stocks and cyclical media-based companies. Although companies like Paramount may experience weakness during recessions as advertising spending slows, periods of economic expansion last longer than recessions. Over time, Buffett realized that buying stocks during a short period of decline was a wise move. Maybe that's his idea at Paramount Global. Another reason Buffett and his team were able to tap into the Paramount pool was his fast-growing platform. The fourth and last stock I am sure Warren Buffett will buy in 2023 is his own company: Berkshire Hathaway. Before mid-July 2018, the buyback of Berkshire Hathaway shares will be carried out if the company's shares fall to or below 120% of the book value (that is, not more than 20% above the book value). In more than half a decade until mid-July 2018, no shares were redeemed, while Berkshire Hathaway's shares did not fall below the target. Since the board passed more than four years ago, Buffett and Munger have overseen $63.1 billion in purchases of Berkshire Hathaway stock. With the S&P 500 in a bear market and the US economy showing a possible recession in 2023, it seems almost certain that the bailout will continue.
