Hígado graso - Esteatohepatitis - Fibrosis hepática

Hasta el 25% de personas en el mundo pueden tener esteatosis hepática conocida también como hígado graso. Los pacientes con síndrome metabólico, diabetes mellitus, obesidad tienen mayor riesgo.
En algunos pacientes con hígado graso se producirá una inflamación en el hígado llamada esteatohepatitis que puede conllevar a la fibrosis y cirrosis hepática.

La esteatosis hepática tiene tres grados: leve, moderado y severo. La forma más común de realizar el diagnóstico es con una ecografía o ultrasonido, el cual es mejor para los grados moderado y severo.
La esteatohepatitis necesita una biopsia para su diagnóstico.
La fibrosis hepática se puede diagnosticar de forma no invasiva con elastografía (Fibroscan), esta tiene cuatro grados, siendo el último grado la cirrosis hepática.
