I met Ms. Bekah Purifoy on TV. Obviously a weird place to try and find love, but I couldn’t help but remain optimistic. I was immediately drawn to Bekah, as she was the only one who was as loud and “out there” as I was the first few days. Strong conversations and intimate questions right away, which I love. It wasn’t until after the show that I gave myself permission to REALLY consider the concept of “us”. It felt good. My friends loved her. I felt like I would’ve been letting them down by not making it work. It didn’t work. There wasn’t a scenario in which the two of us fit into each other’s lives in the way we had hoped, even though the show really pushed us to want a “love story” so badly. I went into a phase of mourning, where I couldn’t help but have consistent dreams about making different choices that could’ve resulted in us actually being together. “If I could kiss her ‘til it made more sense, God knows I’d do it all again.” I know it was an unhealthy mindset, but in that moment, I couldn’t really move on. All I could do was write about it, and so I did. “Isn’t Me” is not a bitter song, just one based in the reality I faced at the time. Coming to terms with the fact that “the last one she’ll ever love isn’t me.”
