What is a handshake hug? Imagine this: you and another person are about to meet for the first time. You want to come across as confident, so you assertively stick out your hand first. But the other person wants a hug. And now you end up somewhere in the middle with a handshake hug kind of a thing. Now imagine this scenario with an important client, on the first day of your new collaboration. Yikes!

Behold the cringe in this episode of Kinda Awkward, featuring Tom.

Recap (spoilers ahead!):
Tom meets a business partner and after a hug is followed by a first handshake. But...both parties decide to embrace each other in a different way which results in an awkward embrace: a handshake hug. Tom's hands end up around the partner's neck, while his hands position somewhere around Tom's waist. Later colleagues ask if the two of them were in a romantic relationship once. That kind of Handshake Hug it was. So watch out: never hug a fellow worker!

Kinda Awkward ('Schroom' in Dutch) is a series of short, animated real-life stories about feelings of embarrassment, big and small. The series covers embarrassing situations that we all know (a bit) too well, like the awkwardness of Tinder dates, making the wrong impression with your family in law, taking a dump in unholy places, or basically any classic sex fail that comes to mind. Moments that are hilariously recognizable and identifiable, but that'll keep you cringing in horror for nights to come. Schroom is a stage for the truly painful and awkward moments in life. The series is made by animator Aisha Dorst and VPRO Dorst.
