ITA EU MODEX 2025 - International Forest Fire Response Exercise in Sardinia, Italy
Witness the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in action during the ITA EU MODEX 2025 exercise that took place in Nuoro, Sardinia, Italy from April 7-11, 2025. This comprehensive international exercise simulated severe forest fires threatening communities and infrastructure, testing the response capabilities of multiple European civil protection teams.
Participating Teams:
Ground Forest Firefighting modules from Austria, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia
Aerial Forest Firefighting modules from Greece and Italy
The exercise, organized by CN APELL-RO in collaboration with the Directorate General for Civil Protection of the Sardinia Region, challenged teams with realistic wildfire scenarios across the Nuoro area. Teams faced extreme drought conditions and rapidly spreading fires threatening residential areas, industrial zones and cultural heritage sites. This exercise tested coordination, interoperability, self-sufficiency and emergency response skills in a challenging Mediterranean environment.
