United Airlines Lawsuit Exposes "Extortion" & Phantom Bag Fees

United accuses Kiwi.com of massively overcharging passengers, providing an example where a checked bag that costs $75 directly from the airline was sold for $194.99 on Kiwi's site. The lawsuit also contains a stunning accusation of an "extortion attempt," claiming that during an October 2024 meeting, Kiwi offered to stop improperly scraping United's website only if the airline agreed to a new business deal.
Furthermore, the filings allege that Kiwi.com used fake email addresses to book tickets after their partnership was terminated and, in some of the most serious claims, charged customers for "phantom" baggage that was never actually booked with the airline.
