Wind energy under the rising Belgian sun. In the early hours of the morning, the #AntwerpEuroterminal is already bustling with activity. A duo of Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbour cranes are handling rotor blades for wind turbines in tandem operation for transport to their onshore destination.

The length of wind turbine blades, especially in the offshore industry, can reach over 100 metres, the equivalent of a Boeing 737 or a football field! The weight of a #windturbine blade can be upwards of 90 metric tonnes. Tandem lifts with two cranes in this case afford added safety and lifting capability. Two LHM 550 have a tandem lifting capacity of up to 308 tonnes.

Did you know that AET has installed three wind turbines on their premises, along with some 8,400 solar panels that alone at their peak can generate 3.8MWh? The Port of Antwerp-Bruges, where #AET is located, is the second largest port in Europe, handling 290 million tonnes of cargo annually.

Wind energy is among the standout industries of #Belgium. The country has nine operational offshore wind parks, making it one of the leading European offshore wind markets and the fourth largest offshore wind generator in the world after the United Kingdom, Germany, and China. By 2030, approximately 25% of Belgium's electricity production could come from the Belgian North Sea. This would save a total of 8.6 million tonnes of CO2 per year.
