Twenty years ago in November of 1992 an intrepid team of cyclists set off from the northernmost point on the African continent with hopes to cycling approximately 12,000 miles to the southernmost point, Cape Agulhas, South Africa. The team consisted of team leader Dan Buettner, team videographer and bike mechanic Steve Buettner, team physician Chip Thomas and Mobolaji Oduyoye of Nigeria and Micheal Mpyangu of Uganda.

In a time before reality television, the team struggled to maintain a cohesive dynamic while facing treats of violence and animal attacks. In the end, nine and a half months later, as a team we prevailed.
