GRAVESITE Of A Woman Who PRETENDED TO BE A MAN To Fight In The Civil War! (Sarah Rosetta Wakeman)

Sarah Rosetta Wakeman was a young woman who dressed and pretended to be a man so she could fight in the American Civil War. She enlisted in the military using the name Lyons Wakeman. Sadly, she died during the war from dysentery at the age of 21 and is buried at Chalmette National Cemetery in Louisiana.

During the war she sent many letters home to her family describing her experience and those letters were saved and later published in a book titled AN UNCOMMON SOLDIER.

Thanks for joining me today on another raod trip to the past and for sharing the memories!
