How I Plant a Tree - I Dig a BIG Hole Using a Tractor with a Post-Hole Digger

If a $10 tree deserves a $50 hole - what about a $400 or $500 tree?

In this video I show - from start to finish - how I plant a tree with the aid of a vintage 1953 Ford NAA (aka "Golden Jubilee") tractor using a post-hole digger with a 12" auger. I remove (and replace) the soil itself by hand with a shovel, but it's much easier going once our clay soil is broken up.

I almost bury my auger drilling the first hole, but I clear the auger when drilling subsequent holes.

I realize not everyone has access to tractors and so on, but use any type of mechanical advantage that you have available and PRE-SOAK your soil before digging. Dig as BIG of a hole as you can - your tree(s) will love you for it!

Remember: "Anything worth doing is worth overdoing!"
