Tutorial: Setting up MarI/O AI Learning - 10 minutes or less!
This is a complete tutorial on how to use MarI/O to learn how to play levels from Super Mario Bros on the NES. Within 10 minutes, you'll be off training your very own AI how to play SMB!
For more information, please see SethBling's video on how it operates and what it can and can't do.
*Ingredients:*
Bizhawk - 1.11.3 iirc is what SethBling used, using the latest is fine but loading the saved AI data is broken. http://tasvideos.org/BizHawk.html
LUA Code from this video - check it's description: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv6UVOQ0F44 or use the direct pastebin link: https://pastebin.com/ZZmSNaHX. Save this as "neatevolve.lua" in the directory EmuHawk.exe is located.
Super Mario Bros NES ROM - may be called "Super Mario Bros (JU) (PRG 0).nes" or "Super Mario Bros (JU) [!].nes". Put it in the same directory as EmuHawk.exe is located.
At least 4GB of System RAM - the more the better. AI training is very memory hungry.
Microsoft Windows - Tested on Windows 10, probably works on 7 up. YMMV on Windows XP/Vista.
NOTE: Beware of some ROM websites asking you to install software to get the ROM image of the game - don't allow the installation as they are just trying to make a quick buck off you. If you're really desperate, I'll upload the ROM I used as a last resort.
