31088 Deep Sea Creatures Part 3

LEGO Creator 3 in 1 31088 Deep Sea Creatures Part 3, 5 new MOC alternates!

Hi. This is my 3rd video in the series based on the hugely popular LEGO creator 3 in 1 Deep Sea Creatures set. So here are 5 completely new MOC alternate models, but this time I designed all of them myself.

Each of these models can be built using the pieces from one LEGO Deep Sea Creatures set without any additional pieces. If you’d like to build them yourself you can find them on Rebrickable here: https://rebrickable.com/users/bricksmartworkshop/mocs/

I’ve been been thinking about how cool a hammerhead shark would be for some time and once I’d figured out how to get the eyes out on stalks and a different way to make the dorsal fin than the great white in the original set it started to come together.

My daughter loves Narwhals and she asked me to have a go at making one. I wasn’t sure at first because there are no long axles or cones or round bricks in the set. But once I’d figured out a way to link the technic pins and connectors together to make the long tusk I knew it was possible and she was very happy with how it turned out.

The Ocean Sunfish was my son’s suggestion. A huge and unusual open ocean fish that is definitely worthy of the MOC treatment. I was particularly pleased with how the lips and mouth looked.

My personal favourite, the whale shark came next. This beast has such a wide mouth and long fins so I had to take quite a different approach, using the large semi-circular plate piece in the head rather than the tail, or base. This was the only one I used the pink tongue in, but it looks good, even with the mouth really wide.

Last came came the sailfish, another amazing and beautiful sea creature, one of the fastest fish in the sea. I didn’t think this would be possible but having figured out the tusk of the Narwhal I thought I could use something similar for the sailfish’s nose. I used up a lot of bricks and slopes in the huge sail-like dorsal fin so I didn’t think there would be enough left, but by making the tail only one brick wide I was able to stretch out the pieces. In fact the sailfish is very long and flat in the tail so this actually added to the finished result.

I've just included the digital speed build of the Sailfish here. If you’d like to build it, or any of these other new Deep Sea Creature Alternates you can find the instructions at Rebrickable, just follow the link below.
