{4K} [FULL NIGHT FLIGHT] Dallas (DAL) - Phoenix (PHX) — Southwest Airlines — Boeing 737-8H4 — N8547V

→ Wow! I don't know whether to say "Southwest Sucks" or "Southwest Rocks". On one hand, they really messed up my travel plans (but so did Delta), but they really showed compassion and empathy for my peculiar situation. This is going to be quite the story, so the flight info list below may be shortened a bit.

The first four flights of the day (PHX-SLC-DEN-AMA-DAL) went without a hitch. But as soon as I touched down in Dallas, I got a text from Southwest that my next flight to Houston IAH was delayed by 90 minutes. I wasn't thrilled, but hey, delays happen. I stroll around DAL for a few hours, get dinner and wait for the new departure time to come around.

What do you get when you mix spring/summer and Texas together? STORMS. SEVERE STORMS. As we lined up to board, I noticed that Houston IAH had gone into a ground stop due to severe storms. I silently questioned why we were even boarding in the first place. Halfway down the jetway, the captain stopped us, asked why we were boarding, and stated that we weren't going anywhere for another 75 minutes. Back up the bridge we went, back into the terminal. As I got settled into a seat, the dreaded message came through — "you have been rebooked onto flight --- to Houston Hobby, departing at 945PM". The flight to Houston IAH was canceled.

At that point, I asked a gate agent if there was going to be transportation provided between the two airports, and they said no. So, I would have to rideshare up to IAH, where my hotel for the night was. So, there I sat, another 2 hours, awaiting the next flight.

Boarding for the new flight began, and as I was waiting for my boarding group to be called, I get a text from Delta stating that my flight the next morning was also delayed and would cause me to misconnect in Minneapolis. It was at that point I gave up. I never boarded the flight to Houston, instead, a very kind ops agent offered to rebook me back to Phoenix that same night, as that was where I started. But, she made it very clear my bag was already headed to Houston and I would have to create a delay claim in Phoenix. I was beyond exhausted at that point and just succumbed to my fate of awaiting yet another flight (this one).

Thankfully, this flight was barely half full, so I got a whole row to myself. Upon landing in Phoenix, the claim-making process was painless and easy. I opted to pick up my bag when I would ultimately fly out again 48 hours later. My next trip rolled around and I picked up my bag, which was also a painless and easy process. But, something happened I certainly was NOT expecting — as a token of appreciation, Southwest issued me a LUV voucher for $150 just for picking up my bag. I was awestruck and very appreciative of Southwest for this voucher. Just another reason Southwest will ALWAYS be my preferred airline when flying. :) Now, back to your regularly scheduled flight information:
