One Minute Thought: "Know Yourself and Know Others, Never in Peril"

One Minute Thought: "Know Yourself and Know Others, Never in Peril"
Sun Tzu’s Art of War teaches that if you know your enemy and know yourself, you will not be endangered. This is not merely a maxim for warfare. In studying, business, and any competitive society, survival without defeat requires first a clear understanding of oneself and of the counterpart. The principle applies even to choosing a major, selecting subjects to study, or deciding on an academic advisor. In any field, grasping its characteristics is essential. Yet one must avoid judging too subjectively. After identifying the nature of the field, the most important step is to dedicate oneself fully, supported by appropriate investment of available resources and cultivation of adaptability. Confidence is necessary in whatever you do, but excess can be harmful. Ultimately, success comes from perceiving both yourself and your counterpart accurately, and then committing wholeheartedly—only then can you avoid failure and achieve your intended goals.
