Print Environment Variables

☸️ Kubernetes Level 2 - Day 4: Print Environment Variables | Kubernetes Series

Welcome to Day 4 of the Kubernetes Level 2 Series! In this lab, you’ll learn how to configure and use environment variables inside Kubernetes Pods to dynamically pass configuration data into containers.

📌 Lab Objective:
Create a Kubernetes Pod that uses environment variables to generate and print a custom greeting message using a shell command.

🛠️ Task Requirements:

Pod Name: print-envars-greeting
Container Name: print-env-container
Container Image: bash

Environment Variables:
🔹 GREETING = Welcome to
🔹 COMPANY = xFusionCorp
🔹 GROUP = Datacenter

Command:
["/bin/sh", "-c", 'echo "$(GREETING) $(COMPANY) $(GROUP)"']

Restart Policy:
🔹 Never

💻 What You’ll Configure & Verify:

🔹 Create Kubernetes Pods
🔹 Configure environment variables in containers
🔹 Execute shell commands inside Pods
🔹 Use dynamic values in container commands
🔹 Configure restart policies
🔹 Verify container output using logs
🔹 Test runtime environment configuration

📚 What You’ll Learn:

Kubernetes Environment Variables
Pod Configuration
Container Commands
Shell Execution in Containers
kubectl logs
Restart Policies
Runtime Configuration Management
Dynamic Application Configuration

🌟 Why This Lab Matters:
Environment variables are widely used in Kubernetes for application configuration, secrets management, database connectivity, API settings, and runtime customization without modifying application code.
