The last programme in the series examines the scale and variety of life-changing moments that happen at the hospital, as surgeon Gill has to make the difficult decision of whether or not to operate on a cancer patient. Meanwhile in maternity, trainee midwife Janine meets expectant parents Alison and Alan, who have opted for a planned caesarean section after tragically losing their daughter the previous year. In cardiology, we meet Derek, a patient who has had to put holiday plans on hold as he awaits an operation. Catering manager Paul demonstrates the military-style operation behind preparing and distributing thousands of meals across the hospital.
