Duck Hunting the Snake River Public in Idaho - Three Man Limit, We Found the Motherload!

On this hunting trip, Jake and I broke in the new duck boat by heading to the infamous Snake River in Idaho. This hunt was a bucket list check for me and it wouldn't have been possible without our old buddy Josh. The first two days were a bit of a learning experience. Although we were able to shoot some ducks, nothing was video worthy. After our second day we scouted out a widgeon spot along the river on the public and morning three it was on! After shooting our 3 man limit of widgeon on Day 3 we watched thousands of widgeon scream down the canyon. We called in the reinforcements for the next day and we were able to shoot a 6 man limit in an hour and fifteen minutes.... Day 4 in Idaho will go down as one of the best waterfowl hunts of my life (link below). The snake river is everything they say it is....public land duck hunting at its finest!

Day Three:
We boated into the spot we scouted the night before and set up a couple dozen full bodies, several dozen floaters and a handful of mojos. We put the decoys as far out as we could, which was only 10 or so yards from shore. After the decoys, the river drops straight off to 30+ feet deep and there is some serious current. As you will see the fog rolls in really heavy. This makes for a unique and scary scene. We lose my dog Delta for 30+ minutes in the fog on a retrieve before she pops out about 900 yards down the bank with the duck. I thought she was a goner and you can hear it in my voice. After the sun comes up the fog lifts and the widgeon start to come back from the fields by the thousands. I will never forget the sound of them ripping down the canyon. It was so loud you can hear it through the camera audio!

This freelance duck hunting trip to the Snake River in Idaho was a solid end to Duck Hunting 2020 and one I will never forget.
